Drake celebrates Raptors win with two new songs!

On June 13th, 2019 the Toronto Raptors won their first NBA Championship. On that day, OVO founder, rapper and Raptors superfan Drake did not lose one second to celebrate the event. With his interaction during games on the sidelines and videos all over the net, you would think that Drake was part of the Raptors rosters and that he was happier than the players themselves that Kawhi and company won the championship. On top of that, with summer coming this Friday, June 21st, Drake did not lose his time to release not one but two new songs to celebrate the Raptors victory, and we all know since the start of his career, Drake loves to be the top artist every summer.

The first song is titled "Omerta", where Drake raps a full verse with no hooks for 3 and a half minutes. The term Omerta is a longstanding tradition in the Italian mafia that subscribes a code of silence about illegal activities and non-compliance with law enforcement. We can see that Drake refers to that definition at the end of the song with the line "Death to a coward and a traitor, that's just in my nature." The song has a smooth and at times eerie vibe that we’re used to hearing Drake over, this beat is produced by Deats, E.Y and OZ. Drizzy hits us with the typical jewelry, money and braggadocious references as he flows over the beat with no problem. He also made a reference towards Pusha T with the line "Last year, niggas really feel like they rode on me, Last year, niggas got hot 'cause they told on me." The bars and flow were on point but one thing I personally did not like was Drake talking about the mafia mob like he was the Godfather, I don't feel it suits his character.

The partner song is "Money in The Grave" featuring Rick Ross. The beat is produced by Cydney Christine aka "Lil CC" who is a former model and this is her first ever produced feature track. When you hear the instrumental, you can already tell this will be a summer anthem.

In my opinion "Money in The Grave" is better than "Omerta" just off the beat and vibe alone. With those two songs and his last feature on Chris Brown's song "No Guidance", are we looking at a new project from Drake this summer? The Toronto rapper has everything going well for himself right now. After helping to put Toronto on the rap scene, and the Raptors winning the NBA title, this is a good marketing opportunity for Drake to take advantage of. What’s next Drake ?
