Joey Bada$$ - The Light Pack is just tooo sweet!
Updated: Oct 3, 2020
We haven't heard from Joey Bada$$ since his last album All-Amerikkkan Bada$$ three years ago in 2017, and hip-hop fans were always anticipating when are they going to have a new project from the Brooklyn rapper including myself. All I can say is that our wishes have been granted, well I would say a small wish as Joey released yesterday a 3 songs project called The Light Pack. Joey stated on social media, he is given us 3 songs for the 3 years we waited for him.
The Light Pack starts with the song "The Light" where Joey starts his rap about how he was gone for a minute, but he is back as a man on a mission, a man who wants to redirect hip-hop into the right path. I can say to be honest after listening to this song, I missed Joey's rap and his wisdom lyrics, and as far as the instrumental goes, crazy production from Statik Selektah!! I also love how he sounds so calm and humble and yet the words are cocky with the bars "Funny story how I beat the odds so oddly, Funny how I dropped all these bombs so calmly, Funny how I never found that shit, it just found me." The following song "No Explanation" is a combination of two true lyricists rapping together on the same song. Oh yes, I'm talking Joey Bada$$ doing his first collaboration with Pusha T. This 5 Star track has dope lyrics, great metaphors, cool flow, and a dope beat produced by Swizz Beatz. A good tag team between Joey and Push as Joey is so wise with his words while Pusha is just deadly as he takes shot at people who keep saying that he only raps about crack and cocaine. The project finishes with the song "Shine" as it samples one of my favorite "Everybody Loves The Sunshine" by Roy Ayers and the track is again produced by Statik Selektah. The song is too cool and smooth to not love it, and the fact Joey was gone for 3 years, it feels good to hear him because I feel he took a break for himself and he improved himself. Now, are we going to have an upcoming album from Joey Bada$$ anytime soon because The Light Pack is a good tease. Welcome back, Joey!
